Frances Coppola l The future of work and why we need a basic income

The Universal Basic Income Is The Safety Net Of The Future
Universal basic income isn't just an idea anymore: it's a reality. For a number of countries including Finland, Italy, Uganda, Kenya, and soon Canada, some form of UBI, where citizens receive an unconditional monthly income, is being tested. As our automated future appears to inch nearer, proponents argue a UBI would ensure stability for workers, and reduce inequality by alleviating poverty and making resources more widely available. But opponents are quick to argue that citizens will be disincentivized from working if they have a guaranteed income, and that retraining and education will combat automation more constructively. Not to mention the economic impact of paying out large sums to each citizen.

Robots Will Take Our Jobs - HOW TO SURVIVE - What is the Universal Basic Income? by SourceFedNerd hosted by Filup Molina
We all know that robots are taking our jobs, in the near future. Do humans have a plan? What should YOU do to prepare? Are we doomed? What is the Universal Basic Income idea that keeps coming up? Elon Musk says it's necessary, meanwhile Bill Gates has an idea to tax robots to save our economy. Who is right? We know manual labor jobs will be the first to be replaced by a robotic workforce (factory workers and truck drivers specifically) but white collar jobs aren't going to be spared either. Robots will be able to take on doctor, lawyer, and many other high-level jobs. Boston Dynamics robots combined with IBM's WATSON brilliant AI will wipe out the workforce as we know it. It's already happening at Amazon. Will the Universal Basic Income (UBI) and robot taxes be enough to save us? How MUCH is the Universal Basic Income? Can we get training for new jobs? If not, what will we do when we don't have jobs anymore? Will it actually be a GOOD THING? Filup Molina explains EVERYTHING you need to know about what happens before, during, and after the robot workforce takes our jobs.

'Capitalism will always create bullshit jobs' | Owen Jones meets Rutger Bregman
Rutger Bregman is the author of Utopia for Realists and he advocates for more radical solutions to address inequality in society. His ideas include the introduction of a universal basic income, a 15 hour working week and, one which will be hugely popular on YouTube, open borders. When I went to meet him, he told me politicians have failed to come up with new, radical ideas, instead sticking to an outdated, technocratic form of politics. He argues this has allowed politicians like Geert Wilders and Donald Trump to slowly shift extreme ideas into the mainstream.

Cutting the Gordian Knot of Technological Unemployment
Advances in artificial intelligence present a clear and present danger to societies built around the idea that all members must be gainfully employed in order to survive. The threat posed by technological unemployment is not something that's just years down the road however. It's already here and the effects can be observed all around us. Furthermore, in a sane society, technological advances would not be something to fear, but something to embrace, by benefiting all members of society. In order for this to happen, the productivity gains of technology must be shared universally and unconditionally. For reasons that will be made clear for those listening, the idea of a basic income is not only an effective way to accomplish this critical goal, it's an absolutely necessary idea to implement immediately in nation after nation around the world in order to create a better present and future for all of human civilization.
