About the Project

Project Overview

“South African City Futures: Visualising the Futures of our Neighbourhoods” is a partnership-based initiative which seeks to engage urban stakeholders at a local level in thinking systematically, visually and collectively about their future by combining the use of futures thinking, multi-stakeholder dialogue, and multiple forms of visualisation to reflect upon the future of their urban neighbourhoods. The project will see us working with neighbourhoods in Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Bay, and will culminate in various creative expressions and events, including an installation at the International Union of Architects World Congress in 2014.

Objectives

To combine the use of futures thinking, multi-stakeholder dialogue, and multiple forms of visualisation (of data, of built form, and of lifestyle) to reflect upon the future of urban neighbourhoods.

Time Frame

SACF is to be implemented in up to 8 selected neighbourhoods located in the Cities of Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Bay between January 2013 and March 2014.
