The principal aim of the brief is to catalyze actions to redress the serious neglect of nutrition in development efforts. As such, the intended audience is policy makers and opinion leaders. Key elements of the brief are: an enabling framework with broad and representative endorsement from different constituencies of the international nutrition community; a call to make nutrition central to the strategies of other sectors--in particular food security, agriculture, health and social protection; the need for a multi-sector approach to realize both nutrition objectives and most of the Millennium Development Goals; the need for substantial scaling up of investments in a specific range of exceptionally cost-effective nutrition interventions.
