Environmental
1 June 2011
This month we focus on the environment, and what a challenge it was to get ready this edition of FFD.org! The topic of environment is huge, and navigating our way through the issues was not easy. Fortunately, we had guidance from our profiled futurist for the month, Rasigan Maharajh. (Thank you Rasigan!) Using the framework on planetary boundaries from the Stockholm Resilience Centre, we were able to better understand what were the issues involved. Read more about this by visiting Bibliozone. And we've gone stellar in Bibliozone Plus, where you'll find futurists, commentators and scientists arguing for and against space travel, exploration and habitation. In Videophile, we have a range of videos relevant to the topic of environment, including some suggestions on how to grow your own fresh air.
Our sister initiative, Southern Africa Searchlight, has a new issue of its Horizon Scan newsletter available. Definitely worth the read! And don't forget about our usual features such as Talk-@-ive and 20:20 Vision - they've been updated. (No prizes for guessing which is my favourite quote among those featured in Talk-@-ive!)
That's just some of what's available in the June edition of FFD.org. Behind the scenes, we continue to work on our core offering - the library. At the moment, the search function is primitive, and we have a lot of work still to do on enhancing that plus sorting through the items in our digital collection.
We'd also like your feedback on our revamped site. From the information we have from Google Analytics, we had more visitors last month in May 2011 than we had in the first three months of 2011. Something seems to be working, but we need more data. We have a poll specifically dedicated to collecting your opinion. Let us know what you think! If you want to provide us with more detailed feedback, send us an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
That's all from me for now, except to remind you that 5 June is World Environment Day.
Bye,
caj
